How to import car to Canada? Importing vehicle from USA to Canada.

I am looking to purchase a car from the US that has a salvage
title.  It has not yet been repaired as I will do the work myself then
have it inspected and registered in Canada.  Is this possible to do? 
Can you help me with this process and where do we start? Thank you!

We do this all the time.
You will need INVOICE , SALVAGE TITLE, Recall Letter, and Insurance Apprisal to be able to start the importation procedure. Most important is Insurance Apprisal - it includes a list of all things to be done on the vehicle to successfully repair it( Parts list and labour ).
That Insurance Apprisal should be recovered from insurance company which apprised vehicle of your choice after the accident.

Rest is easy you import this vehicle as regular vehicle except you cannot drive it.

To finish repairs here in Canada you have upto 1 full year. After repairs are done you have to get a Structural Certificate from a body shop. Structural Certificate is a proof that vehicle is ready to be driven on the road and vehicle is upto manufacturer specs.
At last : Safety Certificate , Emission Test, RIV inspection and that is it.

What are the rules of the game to buy a USA car and bring it here to Ontario ?
What do you do to help with this transaction ? How much do you charge ?

We try to keep it simple:

1. You choose your car.
2. You negotiate the price and buy it  or  win an auction such EBAY.com
3. We need copy / fax of vehicle title certificate and copy of vehicle invoice to start procedure with US customs for vehicle export.
4. We take care of your vehicle transportation to the border, storage at the border ( if required ), border crossing, delivery to GTA or any were in Southern Ontario.

We charge up to $750 CAD for full service. We will lower this price for your custom vehicle importing needs.

We charge less if You want our dealer come to meet you at the border and assists you with customs clearance. That will cost you only - $350.00 CAD for economic service. In this case You drive vehicle by yourself from USA to your Home.

Most of the time we charge $500.00 CAD for half way service if our dealer meet you at the canadian border and you drive your vehicle to your home. In this case we do take responsibility for arrangements of transportation to canadian border, storage, customs clearance, we pay TAXES, DUTIES, and RIV on your behalf. We assist you with RIV inspection. We will not modify your car to pass that inspection. Your local auto mechanic can fix you with daytime running lights or child restraint hook.

You pay us back taxes and duties, RIV after you get your vehicle delivered.

$165.00 CAD documentation only service - Vehicle Import Form1 , vehicle registration for import to Canada at US CUSTOMS, original forms will be couriered to you. All you have to do is to sign it.

I would like to find out what are the procedures to bring salvage vehicle for rebuilding from USA purchased at US auction?

A:

These are main steps in import procedure of US Salvage Vehicle to Canada:
1.You find vehicle and decide on your maximum bid and email us with that bid .
2. We send you agreement to sign and 10% deposit to pay.
3. If we buy you have 48 hours to pay to auction, if we won’t buy your deposit goes back to you and agreement is no longer valid.
4. You pay us all customs fees and taxes.
5. We arrange for transportation, cross border to Canada
6 .You are in charge or fixing it and registering it

We will make sure that vehicle is admissible to Canada and give you full cost estimate before you make your decision.

Q:

How can I get the temporary plate for driving the vehicle and how much is the cost for that?

A:

You can get Canadian temporary plate on vehicle you already own and the vehicle which already has Canadian ownership. This does not apply to vehicles which are in USA or just imported USA vehicles with USA Title Certificate.

Before You import your vehicle, You can ask seller if he can get you a driving permit, Then you can drive your car from USA into Canada.
